The group’s ethical research will focus on the significant moral questions that the contemporary world’s environmental, technical, cultural, and social changes are posing to human beings with increasing urgency: What are the ethical implications of new technologies? How will biotechnology and digital discoveries transform the human condition? How do these technologies affect our imagination, affects, behaviour, and social interactions? What is the ethical relationship between humans and non-humans, and what implications does it have for ecological issues?
Analyses undertaken from an ethical perspective will address applied ethics, theoretical ethics, the history of moral and cultural customs and traditions, normative ethics, gender ethics, metaethics, and questions concerning the foundation of ethics.
The ethical analyses, starting from a pluralistic point of view reflecting the research group’s general interdisciplinary approach, aim to develop unified perspectives on the problems examined, thereby contributing to the contemporary ethical debate both nationally and internationally.
The contribution will be both in understanding the historical, cultural, and philosophical assumptions of the problems addressed and in formulating solutions that can move toward a more just and equitable society.
Alongside the theoretical dimension, the group’s ethical analyses are geared towards the promotion and development of practical strategies and application opportunities. This practical focus underscores the research group’s commitment to real-world impact.
The aim is to actively contribute to public debates and policy-making processes. The research group also seeks to foster collaborations with stakeholders such as NGOs, policy-makers, and industry representatives. This collaborative approach is crucial in identifying key ethical issues and developing effective strategies to address them.
